Adventures in Burlington: Higher Ground

One of the coolest things about going to school at St. Mike's is that we are right next to the biggest city in Vermont!  Burlington has so much to offer, from shops to restaurants and shows, you're bound to find something interesting to do any day of the week.  I love to take advantage of this since we can use our student ID (Knightcard) to ride all the public buses for free, making it super easy to explore the beautiful Lake Champlain waterfront city.
Last night, adventuring in Burlington took me to Higher Ground, our local concert venue.  What's great about Higher Ground is that they have two smaller rooms so you don't have to worry about having a bad seat because every spot is a great view.  Plus, tickets range from $10-$30, so it's super affordable to see a variety of musical performances.  Last night, I got to see the New Politics.  Last semester, I saw Aaron Carter (blast to the past much?) and Matt Nathanson.

Aaron Carter, not bragging or anything, but I was front row...
Another cool part about going to smaller venue concerts is that they tend to walk/jump into the crowd.

I've had the opportunity to see some pretty cool artists at Higher Ground, it is definitely one of the coolest parts about Burlington!  Even if I can't hear out of one ear for a couple days, it's totally worth it.

Bienvenido y Hola!

Hola Amigos!
And welcome to my blog!  This is my first time being a blogger, which is pretty sweet considering I get to write about all the fun that I'm having at St. Mikes.  I figured I should have a bit of an introduction and give a little bit of background about myself before I dive into the real deal blogs.

The Basics:
I am a Sophomore here at St. Michael's College in the lovely state of Vermont.  I originally am from San Mateo, California, which is just south of San Francisco.  I am a double major in MJD (Media Studies, Journalism, and Digital Arts) and Spanish and I could not be happier with what I am studying!

The Fun Stuff:
I like to stay involved and busy on campus (since it's so easy to find activities and groups for subjects that interest you) and here are a few of them...

  • Tour Guide (best job ever!)
  • Blogger (clearly...)
  • Acabellas (all female singing group on camps, easily the coolest cats around)
  • Club Water Polo
  • MOVE (Mobilization of Volunteer Efforts) Service trip to the Dominican Republic.  Last year I went to New Jersey to help with Hurricane Sandy Relief
  • LEAP Retreat Team Member
The Beautiful Bella's from the winter 2013 Concert
The NJ Service Trip Crew!

You get the gist...
So for the next forever, I will be bringing you the latest and greatest from Vermont.  Hopefully this will give you a good idea of what to look forward to doing when you come to St. Mikes!
